What Size Skip Do I Need for a Bathroom Refit?

For a typical UK bathroom strip-out: suite, tiles, plasterboard, boxing-in and packaging.

A typical bathroom refit makes about 2.6m³ of mixed waste (around 1.6 tonnes), so a 4-yard midi skip is right. A kitchen refit needs an 8-yard builder's skip.

These are typical figures for mixed building waste. Taking out a cast-iron bath, a tiled floor screed or a lot of rubble adds weight fast, and hire firms set a weight limit per skip.

The skip size calculator sizes the skip from your own pile or volume, and checks it against your hire firm's weight limit.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 4-yard skip?

A midi skip holding about 3m³ (4 cubic yards), roughly 30–40 bin bags. It suits a bathroom or small room clear-out.

Do I need a permit for a skip?

Only if the skip goes on the road or pavement. The hire firm usually arranges the council permit and adds it to the price. On your own drive, no permit is needed.

Can I put a bath or toilet in a skip?

Yes: ceramics, tiles, plasterboard and timber all go in. Plasterboard sometimes has to be kept separate, and things like paint, asbestos and fridges are not allowed, so check with the hire firm.
