Frequently asked questions

Why does MOT cover less than gravel?

It's compacted. Loose MOT Type 1 is about 1.6–1.7 tonnes per m³, but once rolled or wacked it packs down to about 2.1 tonnes per m³, so each tonne fills less depth.

How many tonnes of MOT per m²?

About 0.21 tonnes per m² at 100mm compacted, 0.16 at 75mm and 0.32 at 150mm.

What depth of MOT do I need?

75mm for paths on firm ground, 100mm for patios and shed bases, and 150mm for driveways and soft or clay ground.
